The Gold Coast is a major tourist destination for Australians. It's sunny subtropical climate, surfing beaches, canal and waterway systems and also high-rise dominated the skyline, theme parks. It's very common see local people spending their weekends on the beaches.
It is by all means the easiest way to go to the beach when you are in Brisbane. Gold cost comprises many beaches which the most famous is Surf Paradise. I rather go to calm beaches than busy beaches. In this, case places like Burleigh Heads, Tweed Heads, Kirra, and Coolangatta make more sense for me. However, if you prefer busy places, you must go to Surf Paradise.
Anyway I didn't see big differences between these places. I had fun in all of them. I think Gold Coast is like Guaruja with few people in Brazil. It is a good place to go but there is nothing spetacular. It's a perfect spot to let your hair down.
We found a small place which sells a lot of typical Brazilian food like "cochinha", "açai" son on. It was awesome. I'm sorry I forgot the name of the place.
My New Year Eve party was there. In terms of fireworks you mustn't expect too much. On the other hand, walking in the beach after fireworks was spectacular safe. Everything is tidied up and sidewalk is very clean.
Gold Coast also has a larger professional surf lifesaving service to protect people on the beaches. The government carries out the shark control program to protect swimmers from sharks. Sharks are caught by using nets. Additionally lifeguards will clear swimmers from the water if it is considered that there is a safety risk. It's quite impressive.
