Lions Head & Tubermory

It was the end of summer in Canada, and we took this opportunity to explore the Bruce Peninsula.

This area is the home to the most extensive intact forests in southern Ontario. Nearly 70% of Bruce Peninsula is covered by forest providing habitat to significant animals and plants including over 40 species of orchids, 39 species of mammals, including 18 species at risk, and a genetically unique black bear population.

Our experience in this place was amazing. We stayed at Lion’s Head at Richard and Wendy house’s. This couple it’s absolutely adorable, and the breakfast was fantastic. Everything was fresh and delicious. The house was built with wood in the middle of the forest.

On Saturday, we spent some time walking around to the beach and then we visited the Lighthouse. In the Lion's Head area, there is usually local events such as music band, flee market with fresh local food and a beautiful park for a picnic and chill out. The color of the water in this area is transparent, and there are lots of white stones around. The only downside is that the area doesn’t have lots of options to eat. We recommend you to take some snacks or lunch.

After a relaxing morning in this area, we visited one flowerpot in the Bruce Peninsula’s and one of the many spectacular places along the craggy shoreline known for incredible views. We followed the track of the Devil’s Monument which was actually quite short, but the access trail is steep, rocky and slippery. The hiking is not tricky, but it’s not a right place to take young children or dogs. It's better to take sturdy footwear, a walking stick and watch out for poison ivy. We recommend to take the trail and stairs down to the gorgeous rocky beach. It's a perfect place to have a picnic, or spending time in the water in the summer. The water is transparent, and the view is spectacular.

At the end of the day, we went to Tobermory which takes 40 min by car from Lion’s head. We had few stops in our way to see the nature and take some pictures. Tobermory is a small place with a few restaurants, hotels and some convenience stores. We had lunch in the pirate bar. The food was not something special, but the atmosphere of the place was great. We spent time watching the sunset.

On Sunday we had to wake up early to do the soul stroll. A mindful meditation walk. It’s a peaceful experience which takes around 4 hours in the forest. During the journey, we were in silence to observe and feel the atmosphere that the forest provides. Unbelievable how this time in silence makes we think more about our actions in our daily routine. Sometimes we think more about the past and future and forget to enjoy simple things around us. At the end of our journey, a beautiful poem was read, and we spent some time eating a delicious cookie. It's impressive to see how precious is the forest. After while walking, we started to see a variety of mushrooms smelling different kind of things such as moss, wood, leaves, soil and so on.

For our surprise, Richard, who was our host, took an enormous mushroom to cook our lunch. We just opened a bottle of wine and spend the afternoon talking and enjoying this adorable company. What a memorable day and the mushroom recipe was fabulous. It was just what the doctor ordered.

We also had experience of picking some apple in our way from the forest to home. It's great to see how Apple can grow in the field.

We absolutely enjoyed this experience, and for sure we'll be back there in the next summer!
