Brisbane - Our Temporary Home in Australia

Brisbane was our hometown in Australia. We lived firstly in Spring Hill and then we moved to Petrace Terrace area closer to Suncorp Stadium. This area is well-known for good restaurants nearby.

The first thing that comes to mind when I think about Brisbane is Southbank. It is a big area surrounded by restaurants, gardens, and cinema. The big wheel in the heart of the city is really famous as well. I went to Street Beach, which is an artificial beach in the town, and I liked a lot. It's an excellent free entertainment activity when you don't know what to do. The beach is small but kind enough to take a rest. You don't need any kind of medical exam to go there.

There is a Mexican restaurant called Cactus restaurant. I went there a couple of times. I strongly recommend eating nachos and burritos. It's delicious. I drank a lot of different beers, and the one which I liked most was XXXX Bear. It is reliable and not expensive. Another right place to eat is Gusman y Gomes

However, if you are short on cash, you can buy a sushi. There are plenty of places selling sushi, and by far it was the cheapest food that I ate in Brisbane.

Another great place to go in Brisbane is Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. It was awesome. We played with koalas and kangaroos. There are a lot of species of Australian animals is this zoo.

If you want to study, you must go to Queensland State Library. The seats are comfortable, and the Internet is free. Although the noise of teenagers, the area is the best place to study. I wish I had the same infrastructure of the library in Brazil. The scenery of the river in library's window is spectacular.

The modern museum of art was interesting. We saw a lot of artwork from Asia and Oceania. I like one artwork based on the multimedia style that an artist filmed a movement in usual places like gardens, houses, and streets. The camera moved in different directions (forward and backward), and you feel like you are watching the film of your life.

Chinatown. A lot of restaurants and supermarkets from China. I went there in China Happy New Year (February 10th). The celebration not only marks the beginning of a new year but also a time to bid farewell to the old year. We had a dinner with a couple of friends. Before dinner, we watched a traditional Chinese dancing with a dragon and a lion. In ancient time, the lion was often regarded as a symbol of wealth, divinity and royalty. Historical records suggest the dance started in the Han dynasty and it was included as an essential element in royal spiritual rites. At the end of the show, we received a small bag to put money in the mouth of the dragon. It is symbolized as good luck. After all the dragon threw lettuce leaves, and I took one. Lettuce represents "'growing prosperity." At the end of the night, I bought some dumpling in the supermarket. I love it.

Regarding shopping, Brisbane is not the best place to buy things. Anyway, if you really want to buy something, you must go to the Westfield Chermside Shopping Centre. There are plenty of stores. It takes only 25 minutes from the Brisbane downtown (CBD) by bus.
