Phuket - Beaches, Beaches and Beaches

Phuket is a city located in Southeast of Thailand, and it is one of the most famous tourist places to visit in Asia. On the other side of the town, you will find spectacular beaches. If I compare Thailand and Brazil, I would say that Phuket is like Rio de Janeiro and Bangkok is like São Paulo. I arrived in Phuket from Bangkok, and the flight took 2 hours.

As I mentioned before, this city works around tourism, and consequently, you see tourists from different regions of the world. One thing that grabbed my attention was the number of Russian tourists. It seems to be common due to restaurants offer menus in English and in Russian.

We settled down in Patong which is busiest and well-located area to stay. There are varieties of foods and entertainment for everyone. Restaurants usually offer live food and customers choose the menu and negotiate the price before eating. It's a guarantee that you will eat fresh food. Finding international restaurants as well as shopping mall won’t be a problem. The best shopping mall is Jungceylon.  You also see Hard Rock Cafe, Starbucks and Hangen Dazz nearby.

In Phuket, there are many beaches which I recommend Patong Beach and Kata Yai Beach. I took a taxi to go to Kata Yai Beach, and I paid THB 400. Taxi drivers have a fixed price for each place, and so you won’t be able to bargain. This place was more relaxing than Patong Beach, and the water is warm and waveless. Both Patong and Kata beach is offered chair and sun umbrella at THB 100 baths per chair. Taking a seat, you must chill out because someone always tries to sell you something such as fruits, drinks, sunscreen and so on.

There are many tours around the city. We hired a visit to James Bond Island with the speedboat which was a fantastic day. I strongly recommend doing it. Lunch, drink, and fruits are included. During the day we did different activities such as canoeing, caves, swimming and relaxing time on one beautiful beach.

Before lunch, we visited Floating Football Field in a small fisherman village called Koh Panyi.  This community started with 13 families, but now they are around 300 families. This one day tour costs THB 3.500.

Nightlife in Phuket is crazy. They usually close the main street to have a party with many colorful lights and music. They also have a lot of pubs with a woman dancing on the table. In this area, lots of people try to sell something but if you say “No thanks,” they usually don't insist on. There are same ladyboys wearing fantasies to take pictures. If you want to take pictures, you must pay for it.

Another attraction is Mua Thai Boxing. The fights are violent. It is a martial combat art from local and international fighters that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. It is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, shins, and feet, being associated with a proper physical preparation that makes a full-contact fight very efficient. I had a lot of fun.

The elephant show is a must. It's one of the most famous attractions in Phuket. There are 2 options, and we chose "Fantasea Show." It's a Las Vegas-style production spectacle colorfully blending the beauty of Thai culture with magical illusions, 4D effects, aerial ballet, acrobatics, pyrotechnics and an elephant circus. Ticket includes the entrance and shuttle from the hotel and dinner are optional. The duration of the show is one hour and a half, and after that, you have time to visit the park around the elephant palace.

We stayed 5 days in Phuket, but I think that 3 days is enough to visit.
